2008 KEYNOTE SPEAKER - DENNIS EAGAN

In the Wake of the Aleut

In 1991, Dennis Eagan set out to explore Alaska's wild Gulf Coast by kayak and follow in the wake of the Natives Alaskans who had gone before. Two centuries ago during the peak of the North Pacific fur trade the greatest kayak fleets in history made an annul thousand mile journey around the Gulf of Alaska in search of sea otter. Dennis made several expeditions to the Gulf Coast over a period of fifteen years and completed the final leg of the traditional route in 2006. Join him for a preview of his forth-coming book In the Wake of Aleut and an informative presentation on the historic water trail of the Aleuts and the magnificent coast they paddled.

Dennis has spent most of his life in the outdoors as wilderness guide, instructor and outdoor educator. A resident of Alaska for ten years, he now lives in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California with his artist wife. A certified whitewater instructor with the American Canoe Association, he currently makes his living teaching yoga but continues to moonlight as a kayak guide and instructor. He leads wilderness retreats that combine yoga with paddling through his company, Wild Yoga.
